Texas may think its so big that it doesn’t need the rest of the country. It just discovered that we all need each other.

The Governor of Texas, speaking about the ongoing tragedy, actually said, “This is what will happen with the ‘Green New Deal.’” Uh, no governor, this is what actually DID happen because of your cockamamie governance!

Texas has bad governance because they voted for it. Winterizing power generation adds to cost and cost is passed on to consumers. Consumers pissed off about paying more for electricity vote for any dumbass that says they can get it for cheaper. They got it for cheaper because power companies bet that winter wouldn’t happen, It happened. The question is, what will be done now and will Texans vote any different come November.

Texas sorely needed multiple times in the last half century plus to think about advances and regulations that would make its power grids more reliable and to listen, learn, and compromise on having some regulations. Sometimes stubborn is only for stubborness’ sake. The choice there to not have federal standards and not use the standards of the western or eastern grids began before WWII. During WWII there was some power sharing despite that. More recently, the lack of standards has meant Texas buying power from Mexico when Texas’ badly outdated system would fail under extreme weather conditions. Of course, with the warming Arctic from climate change, the perturbations that lead to deeply southern penetrations of arctic air are expected to increase in frequency. So, such cold snaps may become much more common in the south.

This video is downright INSPIRING. It is by a Conservative who strongly supports the Constitution. He is a power figure in Arkansas and as such, as well as from being a war hero, he also has national standing. His statement takes nine minutes but is very worth hearing since he gets to the most essential points and he describes a way forward which can certainly happen elsewhere, including here.

Hey, depending on the issue I vary (liberal for social issues that increase fair opportunities like civil rights, strong education, retraining for jobs, equal work advancement; old style conservative pre-debt-approach for most fiscal issues except that I strong think that infrastructure repair and replacement programs as a modern New Deal approach could help the nation greatly now and should be done; moderate in most else). Oh, and i am an independent who votes according to things like past voting records of candidates. I do not line vote and consider it lazy.

Most Texans and certainly most Texas republicans have spent the decades after the American Civil War carefully avowing any entanglements which might “anchor” Texas to ANY other state in the Union. The goal has ALWAYS been to be able to cut loose whenever they wish.

Republican Texas has ONLY participated in “American” activities when it has served THEIR purposes!

Oh, they’ll take our money and certainly take our help and other resources when THEY need it, but commit to and join with the Union? No way.

I hope the next time they want to succeed we simply say “Bye Bye”. The cut off everything that comes out of Washington, remove all military, stop Social Security etc, etc.

I saw the governor on TV blaming the Green Deal on the blackouts because the windmills were frozen. Yet, it was shown that the windmills only provide 10% of electricity. The balance comes from gas and coal.
