The problem most people have, is that they speak human, not dog! I never start training using words like “sit”, “stay”, “come”, etc., only body language (words can come later, but they’re only for my convenience). I use their name for praise only, and for correction, a sharp “ah-ah” usually suffices. Of course, this approach works best with a dog who is eager to please, so the first thing to do with Will is to get him into that mindset … which may be the most difficult part of training him!

No wonder Will doesn’t obey you – it’s LIE down. If you want him to LAY down, you’d have to give him something to LAY down.

Try training a Siberian Husky, it’s no problem if she was going to do it anyway.
