The Rodent Control Officers in our house have done excellent work. We haven’t seen a mouse, rat, squirrel or any small dogs or children since we moved in.

Laser pointers are cheating! They exploit a weakness for chase (or fondness for play) in an effort to change the balance of the relationship. To reduce the balance will only lead to horrible long term consequences at the expense of short term gain.
This seems to be a reflection of the political system we now live in: Any massive moral loss is justified by the smallest of material gains.
