“Hillel gently chastised the man, saying: “What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow: this is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn.”
Or as Jesus put it (according to Luke [NIV]): “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Marrin’s panel is fine as far as it goes, but it does overlook some parallel scripture important not only to Catholics, but also to genuine Christians of all stripes as well as sincere people of all faiths who subscribe to the paramount importance of humans and human relationships. Marrin should try to incorporate other New Testament passages in this context, e.g., James 4: 1-12 (Slander of a fellow Christian does not break just one commandment, but makes mockery of the authority of law in general and therefore of God.); Matthew 7:1; and Romans 2:1 & 14:4.

Sort of.

Does the Pope have such wisdom to quote from other sources? I like it.

Don’t feel bad, most judges today are unbalanced…

Unfortunately, that understanding of the law is a far cry from that of real judges and lawyers. Libraries cannot contain all of that ruminating.
