That’s how the U.S. has been traditionally governed, by parties/interests with differing views working together and compromising. Not with one side holding their breaths until they turn red if they don’t get their way.
Not a coalition, just a big enough tent for many differing populations. The Republicans allow white male evangelicals (along with their submissive wives) yet expect that they appeal to everyone.
I think the most telling point about Trump’s “compassion” for his base was best demonstrated at his most recent Nebraska rally. His campaign bussed in thousands of supporters. But after the event, it seemed no one made arrangements to get all those people home. They had to walk miles, in near freezing weather, to find their own transportation back to where they came from. Several were hospitalized. But it’s okay, a Trump spokesman said, because the president was whisked away in a nice warm limousine to his nice warm tax-payer funded private jet.
Trump, the out-sized Oompa Loompa, has never been known for his assembly skills, but the coalition he’s constructed to run AGAINST him is, none the less, quite impressive!
Unfortunately, the Left is better at fragmentation than coalition; if it can even make it to the Nexus 6’s four year lifespan, I’ll be presently surprised.
Tyrell: “You were made as well as we could make you.”
Not quite sure what the point is. Competence, good judgement, and honesty (real honesty, not Trump’s counterfeit “tells it like it is” honesty) are popular with many segments of society. Trump and his minions have given a lengthy real-life tutorial in what the consequences are of the other thing.
Makes me think of the Napoleon Prize (from the Britcom “Yes, Minister”), awarded every five years to the statesman who made the biggest contribution to European unity. Since Napoleon. That is, if you don’t count Hitler.
I am hopeful that several of the democratic primary candidates will be allowed a place at the table in Biden’s administration, each one bringing their talents and perspective to create a true coalition that honors the diversity of America’s people.
Hmm… I thought it was a good thing that people of all kinds come together to elect a leader who is acceptable to all of them. Why should they be portrayed as Frankenstein’s monster?

He certainly did. The only good thing he’s ever done is… hm. Well. Hmm. Ah. In just a few days, he’ll be good at actually losing.

Maybe, just maybe, a large proportion of the population has found that they do have common interests and goals.
