Aw, Annie, you could give them an autograph, maybe a selfie…

I forgot, this is not BCN, where the mice are our friends.

Got the bill for my car. Needed a new AC and fuel injector…ouch is all I can say. With less than 60k miles, I’ll be driving her forever.

    Today is:

    National Pasta Day

    Black Poetry Day

National Mulligan Day. I wondered what that was about, so I looked it up. Here is part of what I found:

“National Mulligan Day is observed annually on October 17th. In golf, a mulligan happens when a player gets a second chance to perform a specific move or action. The day offers an opportunity for giving yourself a second chance or, as some people call it, a “do-over.” We can all think of something that at one point in time, we have said, “I wish I could do that over.” Celebrate the day by taking your do-over. Also, be considerate and offer a Mulligan to a few friends and neighbors out there. Some days we all deserve it. Use #NationalMulliganDay to post on social media.”

National Edge Day. I looked this one up too and it had this to say:

“National Edge Day on October 17th promotes a movement of youth refraining from using alcohol, tobacco, and other recreational drugs. As part of the Straight Edge movement, teens and young adults pledge to live a clean lifestyle. Many who follow the movement also abstain from recreational sex and unhealthy food choices. The day also encourages the support of those who chose to live the Straight Edge lifestyle. Abstaining from tobacco, alcohol and recreational drugs is not an indication someone is dull. Many who live on the edge, do so without these chemical enhancements. Some may travel and explore the world. They may be thrill-seekers or collectors of knowledge. Perhaps they absorb languages and music instead.”

And one more – it is also National Sweetest Day. I have always thought this was just another day to get men to buy gifts for their wives & sweethearts. but it isn’t about your sweethearts, it’s about candy. Here is what I found out:

    “NATIONAL SWEETEST DAY

National Sweetest Day is observed on the third Saturday in October by people of all ages.National Sweetest Day encourages everyone to be generous even in the smallest ways. This day reminds us that even small tokens improve the lives of those around us. While the observance started with candy and sweets given to our sweethearts and friends, the day is full of lessons in persistence, resilience, and doing small things greatly. On National Sweetest Day, take care of all those who need extra attention. Even those who need significant care, when given the smallest token, will feel the effects. HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalSweetestDayGive a gift to someone who needs a reminder of the sweetness in the world. It is, after all, the Sweetest Day of the Year. Use #NationalSweetestDay to post on social media.

National Sweetest Day found its beginnings in a holiday founded by the National Confectioners’ Association in 1916 called Candy Day. On October 14, 1916, candy shops around the country filled newspapers announcing their sweetest treats and delights. Originally designated to be celebrated the second Saturday of every October, the confectioners’ convention in Detroit in May of 1916 made the final resolution.

    Candy Day

Early advertisements found in Indiana, Minnesota and Texas newspapers mention the “Sweetest Day of the Year” in reference to Candy Day. However, it was not the official name of the day – not yet.

By 1917 war raging in Europe, and many retailers encouraged patrons to “Get one for yourself and one for the boys overseas!”

Then in April of 1918, the United States officially entered the war in Europe, and with that came rationing. Sugar, as well as many other commodities, became scarce.

To LROS from yesterday who said, "I read yesterday that don’t be too concerned if you get fever, sore throat etc. Its probable a cold. The no sense of smell and taste is the one thing almost all Covid positive people have.

I lost mine back in Feb when I had what the Doctor said was Bronchitis. Hmmmm?"

I had what I thought was a cold in January. I had a sore throat and very mild fever (I think it topped out at around 100.5°, but I don’t remember for sure) and I had sneezing & runny nose, followed by nasal congestion and a cough that lasted about 2 weeks. But the symptoms were so mild, I couldn’t justify staying home. I didn’t have enough protected paid time off to stay home for those 2 weeks. And COVID wasn’t an issue around here back then. But the one thing that puzzled me was that I had lost all sense of taste and smell. People would walk into the break room saying, “PHEW! What stinks in here?” Or, “Who burned the popcorn?” and I couldn’t smell anything. And I was also wondering why I couldn’t taste anything I ate. It wasn’t until weeks later, long after I was fully recovered that I heard a loss of taste and smell is a symptom of COVID. I have not been tested, so I don’t know if I had it or not. But if I did, it wasn’t serious and we didn’t have a lot of other people at work getting sick.

On another note (as Tad says), we have a squirrel running around in the back room of our store. So far he/she has evaded capture by the “critter control” guys.

We got contacted by the local health department. Apparently in a case of not here syndrome, they want us to take the test over at their facilities Sunday. This involves stewing and worrying for another 48 hours. Their lame excuse is that Covid-19 takes 5 to 7 days to manifest. Well, I was tested 6 days after my last contact. Sunday will be day 8. And I still have no damn symptoms! I am madder than hell.

To Animom4 from yesterday: since my brother tested positive, he was self isolating with his dog at a Red Roof Inn. However, Yesterday, My other brother and his wife in rural Jackson County WV also tested positive. So he checked out of the motel and moved back in with them. I suspect they caught it at their Lion’s Club Apple Butter Sale a few weeks ago. I hope the Health people down their do a contact tracing.

We’ve had a breakthrough with the kittens. This morning they actually played with the string toy. They played in the tube with Blackjack, Moose was still over where the food is looking for it. Too bad for him…it was on the counter under a towel.

Those dirty rats must be pretty dumb if they Think Annie is a bank robber just because of a comic strip. Haven’t they heard that you can’t believe everything you read? (Especially if it was written by Chesney.) On another note, saw five juncos, a sparrow, and a dragonfly while out walking today.
