Finally, the mother of all meta mega orbit cartoons
Poly Styrene 1957-2011.
Osama Bin Laden 1957-2011
Man: Oh bondage, up yours!!
Woman: Better music than in abbottabad, huh?
Poly and Ossie- we hardly knew ye
Incidentally, since the correct term is “houri”, education would have deprived the dumb poster above from parotting another uneducated cartoonist.
I’d bet that Rall knows pretty well that Islam doesn’t use
such retarded iconography as halo or wings constitute.
Indeed, fearing to offend the divine Trust (amaanah) assumed by man, Islamic art shrinks from depicting the Messengers, Prophets and Saints.
Although Rall’s comics could hardly be considered as art -except of course in Amerika- is there some hidden meaning behind him drawing winged houri but a wingless Oussama with a faked halo?
Believing in angels is one of the six Articles of Faith in Islam;
The Qur’an mentions that angels have qualities that may be typified by the word “wings”;
Angels have sometimes two or three or four (pairs)…, and the Prophet had seen Gabriel having 600 wings…, and Archangels (namely Gabriel and Michael) are described as having thousands of wings…, and Gabriel’s wings were said to span from the Eastern to the Western horizon…, etc…
I was just mentioning their representation in artworks was frowned upon.
^ I’m afraid not, Mister.
The only assumption I made was that Rall knew a bit more about Islam than his uncultivated compatriots.
And I ended wondering if he knew enough as to hide some meaning in the cartoon.
“When a cartoon represents anything supernatural, it is not meant to be realistic, but funny!”
Gee….you mean the cartoon wings drawn on figures representing angels by Christian churches after artists took the liberty of adding them on church paintings?

I wonder if George Washington is enjoying the Sid Vicious concert.

This is just genuinely weird, but amusing. Alas, Poly and the X-Ray Spex, icon of my youth. And she just had a new album come out, too!

Oh Clark, do you really think Osama would like punk rock?

Osama got a halo? You’re gonna catch some flak for that…

The halo is fake, like his spirituality.

That looks like a fake halo to me.
And everybody else has wings.

Is it just me or this is the only cartoon where Bin Laden doesn’t end up in Hell?

Indeed, you’re very right, since:

^You are making the rather dubious assumption that Ted cares what Islam thinks…

“Night-Gaunt49” above got it right……
“Whatever myths humans can create to succor their psyches”.
Joseph Campbell, in his book, referred to it as, “The Power of Myth”.

Come on, people! A cartoon is a cartoon!
When a cartoon represents anything supernatural, it is not meant to be realistic, but funny!
You think Hell and Cerberus look anything like what you see in Sooky?
Cerberus isn’t even part of the Christian Hell, but a part of Greek mythology!

The wawhabi do not like music, at least not in the mosque.
