Nope! Dub-Ya would have used a ‘red’ tag. Pres. Obama uses a ‘blue’ tag.

Eight years to the date of Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech, and almost 9 years after GWB said he wasn’t concerned with Bin Laden any more, we have a President with the cajones to get the job done. And McCain thought Obama was “naive” to say he would get Bin Laden.

s9999a, you missed the point completely. This cartoon points out that Bush failed. NOW the mission is accomplished, not when Bush had his photo-op. Bush could have done this; we were close to bin Laden’s lair when we first went into Afghanistan. But instead of using the counterterrorism professionals and the CIA, they decided to let bin Laden go (after promising to get him “dead or alive,” Bush later called him “irrelevant”) and attack Iraq instead. To do this, Cheney built his own incompetent organization and cut out the experts. And as a result, we have spent hundreds of billions, sunk our economy, and generally gotten ourselves a mess of trouble that could have been avoided had Bush spent the time back in 2002 to get Osama bin Laden.

“Hopeful he will not get re elected by using all that Bush put in place.”

What does bombing the h3ll out of Afghanistan and Iraq have to do with a small, elite force going into Pakistan and taking out their target?

Its not like Saddam and the Taliban knew where Bin Laden was hiding.

^ doesn’t exist, btw, at least not anymore… and not officially.

Motive, I understand and respect your view. But according to the people who have been involved in the searches and the planning over the years, we never stopped looking for Bin Laden. We nearly had him under Bush and failed… not because Bush didn’t want to get him or let him go, but just because he got lucky and managed to get away.

With that said, props to Obama for getting it done and not tipping his hat that it was going to be done.

And good pick-ups on the possible subtleties in this toon (the Bush quote and blue tag. I would hope the latter was equally true as the prior.)

While I give great kudos to Obama for this - he acted as an American president, no permission - no apologies, the intelligence that led to this was developing over the years - starting under GWB, with special interrogations at Gitmo …

Give credit where credit is deserved.

The “flag wavers” didn’t get it done, Devgroup was finally given permission to do THEIR job! Also, interrogation works, torture doesn’t. The intelligence leading to this likely had no connection to anyone locked up in Guantanamo over five years ago. It was more to do with information obtained last summer.

Brave men get the job done, not political bravado.

If you think that Obama is going to get re-elected on that “We got Bin Ladin” ticket you have another thing coming. He is a one term president because he is no politician and he lost the most important votes to get him re-elected, the Independents. And the tea party people make up most of the Independents. Too Late!

^flanders, the tea partiers are primarily hard-right Republicans, not “independents.” Read the research.

Dj, that’s a debatable point. Had we started a serious counterintelligence effort and infiltration instead of wasting resources on the Iraq war, we might well have found him sooner. Where Obama took different action was relying on the professionals that Bush, et. al., ignored. (And torture-based information apparently had little or nothing to do with it.) Osama got lucky once, no question. But he’s been in his suburban home for the past 5-6 years, not on the move as people thought. We know that Bush and Cheney decided to take a military approach, which is exactly what did not work here, and lots of people have said so regardless of political views. You don’t hunt guerrillas and terrorists with an infantry - you do it with spies, infiltrators, intelligence, and counterterrorists. That’s what Obama did.
