In my child development class, we studied the stages of childhood play. One of the earliest was “Parallel Play” where toddlers around 2-3 years old would play next to each other, but doing completely different things. “The older the children are, the less frequently they engage in this type of play.” Based on their current and previous behaviors, it looks like these two never progressed beyond that selfish and self-centered baby stage.
