For the younger crowd: Icebox, a lined cabinet with two or more compartments. The top most compartment was made to hold a block of ice, the cold air would sink down around the other compartments keeping anything cold that needs to be.
One night we were watching “The Seven Year Itch.” The Mrs took an idea from that and put several sets of night clothes in a large freezer bag and placed the bag in the freezer. It worked for the first hour or so. The important part was that she felt better.
