And now … KANYE WEST RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT?
Oh boy, just what we needed — another reality-disconnected “reality” “star” trying to run for president.
The good news? Kanye West is NOT running for president.
No, I’m not calling him a liar, or accusing him of just trying to drum up some publicity to burnish the brand, though I wouldn’t rule that out. I think that, right now, today, he fully intends to run. But while Kanye is not nearly as mean-spirited or maliciously evil — or a traitor to Russia — in the same way that Trump is, he has at least as short of an attention span and the same distorted sense of reality.
Kanye can’t run because the logistics simply don’t allow it.
He is too late to try for a major party nomination, and to run as an independent he would need to go state-by-state to get his name on the ballots of all fifty states and the District of Columbia. The filing deadlines in several states have already passed, and the rest are due in August or September.
Even if Kanye had the capacity to organize a field operation on the scale that it would take to obtain tens of thousands of signatures in scores of states, which he doesn’t, he doesn’t have the time. Even a top-rate campaign strategist with the best possible field operation would find the task likely impossible. For someone as disorganized and unfocused as Kanye, the chance is less than zero.
But it does present some much-needed comic relief and, hey, the brand name gets a boost.
For me, this doesn’t make it worse. But then “weirder” and “worse” aren’t synonyms in my lexicon.
Besides, if he actually pulls any votes at all, it will have to be from the “truly whacko” bloc, and in 2016, most of them voted for the Orange Mistake.
