Equating the two is ridiculous when the guy on the left has no way to change other people’s racism & prejudice. The guy on the right CAN CHANGE the way he is viewed by (1) eradicating the code of always sticking up for your brothers in blue changes, and, (2) integrating compassion for EVERY human being into their work, (3) learning about & listening to the communities in which they work. Protests can continue until the cows come home, but it will be the SOS until enough of the folks in blue are brave enough to begin the process of change.
There may be just a few bad apples in the barrel, but the silence and lack of self- governing on the part of the unions and other officers make it their problem too. How many times in the last few years have the brutal deaths of those apprehended gone unreported by the police departments until a video has surfaced? Until a public outcry happens? How many times was the truth buried until someone on the outside dug up the facts?
Cops have a long-standing system of protecting each other and acting with impunity. Even the “good” ones keep quiet when others do bad. And cops in general did not acquit themselves well during the protests. In far too many cases, they were the instigators of violence. They arrested 140 different journalists who were following all the rules. They attacked people who were not in any way causing any harm or violating any rules. They even attacked and beat bystanders who had nothing to do with the protests. The problem is the system. Just like everyone wants to paint all politicians as corrupt because they belong to a corrupt system, so do we find ourselves mistrusting cops because their system is so corrupt — and designed not to protect but to control. But hey, cops who judge whole groups and abuse whole groups as one should be given the benefit of the doubt, right? Defunding and starting from scratch would work better.
But when the police show restraint and willingness to engage with protesters peacefully, then Trump lambastes them as weak and threatens to bring the military in to “solve the problem very quickly”.
You see, where the police engage peacefully with protesters to find acceptable solutions to the problem, then “the domestic terrorists win”.
This is a good demonstration of not understanding systemic racism. anyone could be disparaged in the manner described in the second panel. The thing that makes all the difference is power; who has it and who doesn’t. When a child says that all grownups are mean and unfair, really doesn’t affect the adult receiving it. But when an adult says that all children are bad and need strict discipline, it can have a great effect on the child being handled by that adult.
Then the cop clubbed the other guy because he felt threatened, he was only following orders, he couldn’t get his knee on his neck with him standing there.
Four Cops on the scene at the George Floyd murder….. Yet only ONE bad apple?
How may cops had seen Derek Chauvin do this EXACT more before. he was on the force for 19 years. This kneeling on the neck is not an easy thing to do. it takes balance Practice and TRAINING! Who trained him to do this move?
How may cops had seen him do this before? a handful? dozens? a hundred? how many times was it reported? again 19 years on the force.
But Kelly is going to convince you that there is ONE bad apple?
and since we are speaking in metaphor the complete saying is “One bad apple spoils the whole barrel”
One Derek Chauvin corrupts the whole force, by making so many of them accessory to assault and now murder.

I can find many instances of black folk saying “I condemn the rioters, I condemn the gangsters, I will go to court and testify against them”. But it is hard to find “good apple” cops fighting to stop the “bad apples”
There are good cops. But like apples, a bad cop can ruin a lot of good cops by contagion. So, logically, the larger the force, the more likely that they’ve been contaminated.
As a former federal law enforcement officer, I can tell you that there are plenty of bad apples. That’s why I moved on after a few of years. They have an us versus them mentality/attitude that permeates the system. If you aren’t cop or part of their system, you are just regarded as an untrusted outsider – the enemy.

You know what the difference is, SKelly, between a cop and a black man?
Being a cop was a choice, and you can do something about it.
You keep being a good cop, you’ll always be fine. A good black man does not have that same protection, does he?
