Sheneman is usually spot on..but there’s room for misinterpretation here. As for me, I’m going to say this one is thick sarcasm…and you could replace the flag wavers dialog with something trite and meaningless like “thoughts and prayers for the appendix”.
Please, someone explain this because it looks as if this is mocking Black Lives Matter by stating that even an appendix that is about to burst (and needs to be removed before it kills the patient) matters as much.

I have many books with appendices (appendixes?), but I’ve never had to have one surgically removed, although some have definitely been swollen.
