Hypothetical situation for the cartoonist (who I am sure doesn’t read the comments): If the pandemic could end with the only additional deaths required being your family, except you, would you do it? If the answer is no, please don’t play the sacrifice card, because you are pressuring someone else to make that sacrifice unwillingly.
There is a difference between sacrificing life to sustain a constitutional democratic republic that benefits everyone … and sacrificing life to save an economy that primarily benefits the ultra-wealthy.
If we still had a government that worked to promote the general welfare and not one that had been dissected to remove regulatory departments in exchange for tax cuts, kickbacks and political donations, we wouldn’t be going through this.
The need for a lock down is over. Just as soon as rich people, business owners, politicians, and their entire famines are all out in the general public and having close contact. I’ll believe it when I see them working in COVID-19 wards. I’ll believe it’s starting to end when I see ‘em kissing babies and not just kissin’ butts (well, I wouldn’t wish that on babies, but y’all get my drift). No more BOHICA.
Perhaps we have different definitions of the ultra-wealthy. 1.5 weeks ago, 40% of the households with incomes less than 40K had been laid off. Many of these people have chronic issues that they can’t get support for while things are shut down.I can’t support an enforced sustained lockdown. I can, however, support creating job training programs and subsidized delivery programs for those who choose to remain cloistered while opening things up for people who prefer to be around others (people are social by nature and need to be able to interact with others).Or quick way of stating it, provide freedom of choice. Provide opportunities for those who want to stay in lockdown but open up for those who choose not to.
I think it hilarious that people who have spent their entire lives stockpiling beans, ammo, bottled water and Jim Bakker’s “Buckets o’ Slop” and publishing letters about sheltering in place during a global crisis are the ones having meltdowns because they can’t get a haircut or go to the Cheesecake Factory. You were never told to surrender your civil liberties. You were asked to help each other stay healthy and survive.
It is Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in that order for a reason. I miss the library, sitting with friends at the coffee shop, sitting done at the sushi bar, going to my favorite art store, book stores, and even a haircut. But I will gladly wait so someone does not die, It is life first. I also still have most of my basic freedoms intact. I did lose one thank you GOP. The government can now monitor my computer and cell phone traffic with no warrent for a lot of vague reasons.

The Republicans don’t mind if you sacrifice your life for the economy they ruined by ignoring virus testing. They are always in a state of denial.

Is that lock unlocked or has it been cut with MAGA brand bolt cutters ? If bolt cutters the lock is useless like someone we all know.
