It is sad that the right believes Democrats want the country to do badly. Everyone is tired of watching Korean baseball. But somebody has to be the adult in the house.

Steve, we all want to get back outside. I’m sure the citzens of London didn’t like black outs and bidding in bunkers while Germans dropped bombs on them. But guess what, covid has killed more in the u.s. in a couple months than u.s. soldiers killed in Vietnam over a couple decades. It is more than a couple squirrels frolicking outside and cavlier attitude puts our soldiers – our nurses, doctors, and first responders and other essential workers – in danger. Respect our soldiers , Steve.

The chair is labeled improperly. It should say “Governors who care about saving lives”.

You know, if the federal government had acted swiftly and decisively at the outset — remember, the fed knew before January that this was bad and would hit us hard — we would not have to have such draconian measures now. But no, our leadership called it a hoax and did everything it could to keep the necessary supplies out of the hands of those who needed it. They point to their China travel ban — only it was well after COVID was already in the US, and it was a very porous ban that still allowed 40,000 in. Oh, and on the east coast, the fed funneled all those flights from Europe through just a few airports causing long lines of people standing in close proximity for hours — essentially creating a Petri dish for spreading virus. Well done. But yeah, complain about the governors for trying to save the lives of their citizens.

All those squirrels have CV-19. Do you really want to kill the pooch just so he can run around a bit?

Every week that we do not restart the economy the worse the economic fallout will be. As it is right now, the likely economic harm is going to be enormous. The economic devastation that is coming is going to kill more people and ruin more lives than whatever additional damage would be done if the economy was restarted next week. Restart the economy and take measures to protect the vulnerable.

Why have we gone from a shut-down in which the narrative was to flatten the curve and to ensure our hospitals were not overwhelmed to a shut down that has to last until everyone is safe?

It is NOT a death sentence if you go for a hair-cut or go to the beach next week. Some simple safety protocols should be sufficient. If you’re still nervous about leaving home, stay there until you feel safe. If your 300lbs and diabetic or 80 years old you may want to wait until you can get a vaccine.

I hope some Trump Disciples will explain what the equation is and what is on each side.

    A cautionary tale:

Thanks to the diligence and testing, South Korea decided to start relaxing their strict social distancing rules and allow people to start resuming normal life. They still needed to wear masks and take precautions.

On May 2nd, a 29 year-old South Korean male went out to party at at least five nightclubs in Seoul. He wore no protection and was CV=19 positive. The result? He exposed over 5500 people to the Covid19 virus, which the government has been trying to track down and trace so they can test. As of the 13th of May, over 120 people have tested positive for CV-19 and secondary infections have spread across the Peninsula to cities like Incheon and Busan (the opposite end of the country). Testing has expanded to over 20,000.

Korea will get these locked down in time, but it’s really a setback that will take time, all because of ONE person who didn’t think they needed to worry about protecting others and just wanted to have a night out on the town.

    https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20200513004755315

“SEOUL, May 13 (Yonhap) — Cases linked to nightspots in the Seoul neighborhood of Itaewon hit 120 on Wednesday as secondary infections surfaced across the country, stoking concerns over the possibility of a bigger outbreak.

Infections in Seoul accounted for more than half of the cases at 70, with the number feared to rise after more visitors to the affected area are tested for the coronavirus. Some 20,000 have so far been tested, according to the health minister.

Authorities have been on the alert after a 29-year-old tested positive following visits to five clubs and bars — King Club, Trunk, Queen, Soho and H.I.M — in Itaewon, a popular nightlife district also known for its international community, in early May.

In less than a week, the case quickly swelled to a cluster infection, affecting not only those who had been to Itaewon but 43 who were infected through secondary transmission."

Even the Oregon governor, a Democrat has authorized most of the counties to enter phase 1 of re-opening, including two behaviors that I think are still too dangerous, absent good tests: Sit down restaurants and gyms: Both are in enclosed spaces which multiplies the probability of contagion, and in both situations, customers are probably not going to be wearing masks (certainly not in a restaurant).

For myself, I’ll be shopping as needed, with a mask, and doing my recreational stuff either alone or with my spouse… and mostly outside where the sunlight kills the virus, and greater than 2m distances are easy.
