I once worked with an assistant attorney general and we talked a couple of times about watching Perry Mason when we were young. She said she realized as an adult almost everything he did for his clients and/or in court were wrong. Two of his favorites, the “surprise” witness and withholding evidence or a suspect’s whereabouts from law enforcement, would have resulted in his being disbarred if not prosecuted himself.

You could actually learn a lot of legal facts reading Perry Mason nonessential. Gardner always included tidbits about the law.
