having a “meltdown”. Been used for many many years
as a descriptive term for the human population when they have an emotional “tantrum” (for lack of a better term).
To tell the truth, the first time I seen this comic I only seen the baby getting upset and that was it. But after reading the comments here, I remembered about the awful Japanese crisis that is happening overseas and I realized that yeah, this is a poorly timed joke. God help them.
I agree that this was not timed at all, but submitted weeks ago. There was another comic in the fall that people were outraged about (can’t recall what it was about now – I think Veteran’s Day), and the artist issued a statement saying something about how it was submitted a while ago and he didn’t know it was going to be printed on that particular day. That aside… great comic and I’m glad the parents are keeping their cool, which is all you can do sometimes when a baby is upset.
