I watch live police shows (and have for a very long time now), and I once watched an episode where some guys were breaking into a car, and one of them managed to butt dial 911. The dispatcher realized what was going on, and sent the police to the location; all three of the suspects involved were arrested.

My 86yo mom has a smartphone because she’s on my sis’s family plan. Every so often she’s surprised by someone talking in her pocket. 8-D
