    At our house we call the red-breasted nuthatch “the monotonous bird” because it makes the same nasal call over and over, near the top of a very tall tree, in a way that carries a long distance.

    Several years ago there was a bird in the neighborhood that had an unusual ending to its song. I think it was probably a mocking bird based on the length of its repertoire, but at the end there was what sounded like someone tapping a steel pipe twice with a hammer. And the bird repeated that ending on every one of its calls.
