    As of today, 10/5/2020, the spot price of gold is about $1700. A half-ounce gold eagle would have about a $850 “melt value”, meaning, what it’s worth melted down. Add collectors value — you’re talking $900 on up depending on year, quality, etc.

    But to tell you the honest truth, I wouldn’t even give the kid the foil-wrapped rock. I might part with a “gold” chocolate coin …

    A US American Eagle 2020 Half Ounce Gold Proof Coin retails for $1,205. I don’t think a goldfish is worth that.
