Fishstix has a point. When I went to my cousin’s funeral the only people there wearing a coat and tie was me and the preacher. The prevailing attire was T-shirt, blue jeans, sneakers, and baseball caps worn backwards…..There were a couple pairs of cowboy boots in evidence, too.
I have one sport coat, which I last put on for my brother-in-law’s wedding six years ago; four pairs of slacks, which I last wore at my last job with a serious dress code, four years ago; and about three dozen neckties, most of which are not suitable for a bank job or Sunday at most churches (too goofy).
But I do have only the one pair of dress shoes, yes…
rw1h, cowboy boots can be at least semi-formal, if they were cleaned and polished – but anyone who would wear a T-shirt and baseball cap to a funeral needs a swift boot to the butt.
Oh, and ChukLitl – I’m not irreligious, but I refuse to patronize a church with a dress code (birthright Quaker, here).
rw1h: My condolences at the loss of your cousin. Meanwhile, people are just so disrespectful these days. When did all this change anyhow? I absolutely wouldn’t dream of wearing inappropriate attire to church, weddings, funerals, etc.! So why do people seem to think it’s okay to go these places dressed like slobs?

As my grandfather said about his suit: it doesn’t matter if it fits or not the next time I wear it they will just cut it up the back to put it on me.

If you went to meetin’s the occasional Sunday, you might have some Sunday-go-to-meetin’ clothes that fit. I don’t.

My Father-in-law always said that a man only needed one clean white dress shirt. Western cut of course, and a CLEAN pair of overalls.

That reminds me. I’ve got to lose 20 lbs. by October so I can wear my suit to my high-school re-union. (It’s a biggie, folks.)
