It is unlikely that we could ever communicate with an alien species.. In spite of being surrounded with other life forms we can not communicate with any of them.. Some of them can be taught to respond to our language.. but it’s a one way conversation.

If aliens landed, they wouldn’t talk. They’d proceed to kill and invade. Either that or they’d be cookbook salesmen.
