So much for the extra safety latch on the door.

When I was very young, my parents and I were staying in a hotel. They put me to bed and went out for dinner, but I must have gotten up and managed to put the safety lock on the door. When my folks came back they were locked out and I was gone to all attempts to wake me. In those days it was common to have a transom window above the door, hinged at the bottom, that was left partially open for ventilation. The hotel bellboy was small enough to crawl through it and unlock the door. I heard all about it in the morning.

Am I missing something or is his reaction as little overdone? The man didn’t yell, and I don’t think he would have been that scared to wake up to a stranger, would he?
