Actually, you think about it, the second panel makes a very good point. How awful that all that imagination, those dreams, thoughts, ideas – all gone.

Glasses girl: "But, sources of support (mom and dad) kept calling you “spare parts”, so there is that."

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like… tears in rain. Time to die.

A very useful model of life to biologists is that humans (like all organisms) are simply machines used by genes to broadcast themselves. The “winners” are the genes which are most successful in doing so. We as humans care a lot about ourselves (and our near kin, and the rest of nature, in descending order of importance), but our genes are chuckling evilly in the background since they know that they’re more likely because of this to get successfully propagated. We may personally not like this model but it explains a lot more things than any other one you can think up.

Speaking seriously, I do think about that a lot. It puts my mortality into perspective

If you could make an exact recording of your mind and put it into an android body would that really be you? Or some cunning synthesis so sharp you might always wonder. Will you run the risk of being reclassified as a “simulacra” not a person?
