For no particular reason, I will now attempt to discern whether this strip would work if the characters were drawn as humans.
Firstly, would Ozy have the chance to make this joke? Well, in the official image of them as humans from which my avatar is derived, the human Millie is wearing flip-flops. However, Millie strikes me as the kind of girl who would want to take those flip-flops off whenever it isn’t against the rules. Therefore, it’s safe to assume a human Millie would be barefoot in this context.
Now, the question of if she would fall for it. Well, the fox Millie is allowed to go to school barefoot, so if she was wearing shoes, it would be something significant enough for her to remember. Yet she looked down anyway. And since a human Millie would wear shoes more often, the idea wouldn’t seem as strange to her. So, by that logic, a human Millie would be even more likely to fall for the trick.
