I hate this Punxsutawney Phil crap. Modern science has proven that only your local groundhog can predict if you will have 6 more weeks of winter or not. :-)
According to The Wild Kratts the real reason groundhogs get up in mid-winter, only male groundhogs, is check out any available females in the territory, the females continue to hibernate, and to chase away any rival males in the neighborhood.
The legend is that, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow when he rises from his subterranean hovel on 02 February, there will be six more weeks of winter; if he DOESN’T see his shadow, it will be an early spring. Poor, undereducated Hulla Ballew, by using the verb “effect,” speaks gibberish. Her question translates as “How does seeing your shadow, or not, effect (bring about) an early spring?” Had Ms Ballew used “affect” (influence) instead of “effect,” it would still be gibberish. It’s not a cause-effect situation, but only a mere prediction. Jim Scancarelli should know better. Another point for the clueless.
“Gasoline Alley” from 2003 to 2020 is available at GOCOMICS . . . Anyone know where the strip from 1986 to 2003 can be viewed online, or perhaps in a published compilation?
For us we had overall a mild winter and spring mix. just today should be very old an will be 74°, 54° Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday 34° lite snow. So today ground hogs day for early spring, I can see that. 02/02/2020.

Of course the most accurate groundhog in Pennsylvania is Octorara Orphie. Just because you were in a movie doesn’t mean your the best.
