Mother, gather up kid, drive to the nearest park and show him how to have fun. The latest here is frisbee golf. He would love it.
In my day we had to walk a mile to the stream. Uphill. Both ways!

We siblings were fortunate that everywhere my parents moved there was a creek and woods nearby. Eventually, I would find a cemetery within biking distance — much more interesting to me than the creek.
