Always have a radio or TV on so you can let the marketer take a break and listen in.

I pay for phone service and phone companies should do as I say (blocking) rather than allowing business to intrude into my life.

That’s funny. I am somewhat hard of hearing but I play it up, with “What? What? What? louder please, huh, whatcha’ say, SPEAK UP!!” They usually hang up on me.

Depending on my mood and how much time I have, I like messing with telemarketers and even more so scam callers.

Better would be to have the FTC fine each call to a phone registered to the Do Not Call list and split it with the person who turned them in. They just need to designate * code and and the scammers will be bankrupt in nothing flat. For those out of the country, their lines and phone exchanges can be barred from making calls to US numbers.

So tell me: why is it perfectly okay to rudely scream in someone’s ear just because they happened to do something that annoys you?

I spent a bit over a month working as a credit card telemarketer. It was a job when I needed one and it put food on the table for me and my kids. I wasn’t doing it to be malicious. If anyone didn’t want to get the card all they had to say was no. If they didn’t want our company to call them again, all they had to say was don’t call again. We would immediately transfer their number to the do not call list. The best calls, obviously, were the ones that wanted the card. Next best were the ones who said no, or no thank you and hung up because then we could move on to the next call. The people who scream or use an air horn (happened once to me) are no better than thugs and bullies.

Getting a phone call at an inconvenient time is no excuse for assaulting someone that is just trying to make a living. Does it cost something to be polite? At least I was working at a job so I could support my kids. And since people were inconvenienced for less than 15 seconds, well, I guess they were entitled to lash out and hurt someone that did them no harm.
