Local retailers are bringing their troubles upon themselves. Recently I made a couple local purchases which were obviously flawed, and I was given a website and told to take it up with the manufacturer.
For major purchases I always research on line to find what I want, get prices from on line sources and then look for a local store that has it in stock. Many (most) will price match. I get it that day without shipping cost and support the local business! Win Win.
Local stores have one significant advantage: You can actually see and feel the product. You can get a much better feeling for its quality than you can from a website blurb and a bunch of questionable reviews. And there’s no wait for a package to be deposited on your doorstep.

Our current toaster has a “Bagel” setting. It does absolutely nothing and the manual states that is does nothing! The ad however …

Generally, the bagel setting just puts less pressure on the “bread holders.” If is also for thick slices of bread, so they don’t get stuck as easily.
