Afghanistan has been the graveyard of Empires for thousands of years. Hopefully the next President will just declare victory and leave, after all, we’ve been there for almost twice as long as the USSR.
The military industrial complex is the beneficiary of American’s hard earned tax dollars to the tune of 6 to 12 trillion dollars for this Bush/republican debacle. The big boy generals (General Electric, General Dynamics, General Motors, etc.) are making out like bandits and our poor fighting men… well, not so good. I try to help out the jobless ones standing with a hand out at the entrance to our local Home Depot, whose corporate head is a staunch Republican, but we need to take care of these men and get out of the war business. We need to get into the business of fixing the worst thing man has done yet and that’s man made climate change. This needs all the resources we have turned to this because time is now up for pushing this into the future. We need to take action now and declare a world war on fossil carbon pollution. This is the war we need!
That ain’t quicksand, that’s slowsand. But it’s just as deadly or worse. And it’s utterly, absolutely, completely, doubtlessly and unabatedly not a problem we need to have.
