Here’s a tip: Keep the decorations up, it’ll still feel like Christmas, no need to work! Win-win!

Christmas Day was tough. New Year’s Day will be easy.

The decorations will keep until after New Year’s Day. Good to see Heart wear something besides her trademarked ballet flats.

We keep everything up until the week between the NFL Conference Finals and the Superb Owl. And then we keep the exterior lights up for a few more weeks because it is still dark before 6:00 pm on Vancouver Island.

January 1st is our day to put it all away. Always a bitter sweet time. Bitter because it is over. Sweet because it is back to normality.

When I was a kid we put up decorations Christmas Eve, had an extended family Christmas party on Christmas, and kept the decorations up until the day after New Year’s Day. (I wonder if we ought to have kept them longer, given “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”)

That does sound exhausting. Too exhausting to help out, unfortunately.
