We adopted a calico that the humane society had shown on the morning tv show and they said she was a lap cat. She never sat on anyone’s lap, the rest of her life, but sat on the opposite side of the couch from me.
My late loving wife’s cats are lap cats when they want, but only until I sneeze or make any noises really. Truly are scaredy cats, they run from any noises.

Four of our five cats are lap cats. The other is trying to sit on the keyboard as I type this.
