One day on my way to work, I saw a hawk of some sort standing on the ground, eating a pigeon, or something similar. Took some pictures. Showed them to my friends and wife. They were pretty thrilled.

yeah, that’s what birds of prey do….so they can survive.

no less than what people do to cattle and swine and sheep

I’ve seen Red Tailed Hawks tear apart squirrels in my back yard. It’s pretty messy. One time, a hawk left half a squirrel behind — in winter. I couldn’t even bury the remains!

Wifey had no problem devouring the chicken dinner last night. People are way too removed from their food sources.

I recently read the J. A. Baker book. One of Werner Herzog’s favorites. It’s a kind of horror story.

The Mrs saw a hawk take out a squirrel last week on her way to the grocery store. She did not stop. I would probably still be there.

Many moons ago, I was walking to work. Suddenly, I was befriended by a pigeon. I don’t think it was a wild pigeon but someone’s racer or pet. Well, this little bird followed me with grim determination. It would walk behind me for a bit, then take flight, and do these gentle swoops around me, trying its little pigeon best to be a majestic creature – when I put out my arm, it would land , perch for awhile then take flight once again. This was repeated many times. The people who I passed by were grinning like madmen at the very strange sight of a girl and her pigeon, I must have looked like the world’s weirdest falconer. It was very joyful and I was sad when I got to work because pigeons don’t do well at the office, well known fact. So I said good by little bird, off you go. I was talking about this mad experience to someone else, so happy that the little bird had befriended me in this most bizarre way. At which point a total killjoy just out of the blue said “saw a pigeon today on the lawn, Hawk killed it…” THANKS A LOT JERK. Felt a lot like Keith’s wife, I must say…
