    Tony’s QOTD: Scared?

Of a cartoon spider? Nah! I’ll just go all Garfield on them.

But just in case I shrink from this I’ll be sure to take some thread, small nails, and a safety pin.

I like spiders when they are not in my home. https://www.gocomics.com/theknightlife/2019/12/13?ct=v&cti=1890066

LOL! I love when Daddy does this. They’re better when you get the reaction from Mom, though.

I’ve posted this before, but this is a good place to repeat it. I was staying at an eco lodge in Peru on an Amazon estuary. One day some of us were on a guided walk through the jungle and would occasionally come across a large spider web built on two or more horizontal strands stretched between two trees, one on each side of the trail we were on. The actual web was a typical geometric design attached to the horizontal strands, which held it up. A rather large spider was sitting in the middle of the web. We would always duck under it rather than destroy it. One time the guide stopped to explain how it was built and that the spider was capable of producing two distinctly different types of webbing. He reached up and plucked one of the horizontal strands and released it, showing that it was very strong and taut, and it did not stick to his finger. Then he put his finger on the larger web trap and pulled his finger away to show that the web stuck to it and the whole web distorted as he moved his finger. Finally his finger broke its grip and the web snapped back to its original shape. I thought it was fascinating, and I gained new respect for the ingenuity of the spider.

You don’t suppose that Elliott overheard someone talking about raising chinchillas, or maybe was looking through old magazines, and somehow got it sort of twisted?
