I like to think it’s still possible I might overhear someone calling someone else “Hawkshaw” in jest or snide. The expression hung around longer than the comic, at any rate.
I had read The Complete Sherlock Holmes before I was through with Junior High much to the displeasure of many teachers whose homework I’d not put as much effort into.
