I prefer “welcome home” as many do. What we did for our country, sometimes we don’t want to be “thanked for”.

Let’s start by being outraged at trump and his supporters savaging Alexander Vindman, a decorated lieutenant colonel who served in Iraq, who exposed trump’s extortion of Ukraine. Or Tim could continue to support the coward trump with his phony patriotism.

Let’s also ‘thank them’ by not sending them off to stupid wars of choice, putting them in situations where horrible atrocities must be committed to stay alive and leave life-long emotional scars.

Governments just see these soldiers as “boots on the ground”not our sons, brothers, sisters, daughters, husbands, fathers, our loved ones. Both my sons saw action and I’m lucky they came back whole but it’s what you can’t see, the emotional scars. Little or no help form an uncaring government.

I have known many veterans who have been indoctrinated by the army so they will kill others and never had that mindset reversed. Some of them will support any horrendous actions to validate what they have done. (stopping before I produce a doctorate thesis)

Remember those that “were” vets on the 11th of the 11th in 1918 and, the vets that saw action in WWII… Those vets were defending an attack on the commonwealth. Hard to define what the subsequent vets are defending… The talking point is of course “freedom / democracy” .. Offhand, that is failing abroad and democracy is coming perilously close to failing in America as well.

The Authoritarian Smear Campaign Against Alexander Vindman

Trump’s defenders say anyone who stands up to the president is a traitor. They’re dead wrong.

Supporters of President Donald Trump are attacking Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the National Security Council officer who testified this week about Trump’s extortion of Ukraine. These supporters, including former elected officials, are insinuating that Vindman—who was born in Ukraine but immigrated to the United States as a child and earned a Purple Heart in Iraq—is working against our country. The smears are vile, but they’re only half the story. They expose a deeper pathology: the authoritarian mindset of Trump’s surrogates. In this cultish worldview, Trump’s personal interests are identical to the interests of the United States, and anyone who interferes with Trump is anti-American.
