That was me when riding around with a friend.

Then the brakes failed in her almost new car, leaving me no time to scream “Down shift!” while I was fumbling to pull up on the handbrake.

Okay, so was it my daughter or husband who paid for this strip? Scaredy cats! Look, I ain’t gettin’ any younger, sooner I get to that dang light or sign, sooner I can get back up to speed. We’re burnin’ daylight y’all! (JK, in case my auto insurance rep ever sees this. ;-) )

Passengers never seem to understand about “reaction time”. The driver starts to brake at the same time you are thinking about braking but it takes one-quarter to half-a-second for the pedal to start moving and about the same amount of time before you notice the car decelerating.

While you attempt to use the invisible passenger side brake pedal. However it is best to let off the gas to use engine braking to slow then apply brakes further on….saves wear on brakes.

Yep. I had no gray hairs at all until I started riding with just such a driver. Now, I get mistaken for Einstein or Mark Twain.
