I once got home from grade school and announced to my mom, “Guess what? All the other kids jumped off a bridge today, but I didn’t!”

What didn’t happen doesn’t make for change in perspective! If on the other hand, any one of those things had happened…

Caulfield is a pain, but if he is as intelligent as he seems, then homework is just makework for him as long as he is in a regular class. So the solution is either independent study at his level, or advancement to a higher grade where the material is challenging.

I like the one in which college student sends message to parents about her new girlfriend who’s a biker, and mostly not into drugs, etc etc, and ends it:

All the above was a lie, just to put into perspective the fact that I didn’t get all "A"s this term.

Newspaper readers are a tough lot. It’s not easy to see just how much bad stuff is happening out there. But your reward is to see just how much of it is not happening specifically to you. People like to talk about FOMO, Fear Of Missing Out. But, un-empathetic as it sounds, maybe there’s something to RADAB, Relief At Dodging Another Bullet.
