Have you considered having “her” character skip some grades….not an uncommon thing. I once had a high school student who graduated at 16. She was already a second semester freshman in college (AP classes). I saw her again at age 19 and had just started Medical College
We are clearing out the family house – moved into it in 1959 – as mom can no longer live there alone and we need the money from the sale of the house, etc. to keep her at the assisted living residence she likes.
Husband did not believe me that I was a B student with some Cs (especially in gym) (as opposed to As) as I was too lazy to do any work in school – I am now sorting through my old report cards and he has seen them and believes me.
Also shredding old birthday cards, valentines from HS boyfriend, etc in addition to old school records.
Going through old toys and childhood books that were not taken to my house (years ago) would be the worst – but thanks to Hurricane Sandy – they were disposed of as not able to be kept and I don’t have to deal with them – and have already mourned them.
