I remember learning about WWII V-mail somewhere. Letters were reduced to microfilm for transport between the States and a war zone, then printed for delivery at the destination.
It seems every decade or two there is a news item about a post office being torn down or renovated and someone finds undelivered mail from ages past, so this episode isn’t necessarily unbelievable.
There have been instances, I believe, of letters misplaced or undelivered for years on end! … Like others, I’d like see this continue into the week … but …

In some of the panels the letter carrier reminds me of CCH Pounder.
