Almost free, but then . . . it came back. I wonder if she’s monitoring somehow?

Hmm…now I guess we’ll see whether or not this mental control is so effective it can override one’s self-preservation and keep him from going after the key, regardless of the flames.

I mean, I recall Mr. Perfect Hair mentioning that he’d crafted the spell so that self-preservation overruled the effects as a safety precaution, but Knotty brought up plenty of reservations about whether or not that’d really be effective enough, so…guess we’re putting it to the test.

If he DOES go for the key, maybe the pain of burning his hand will make him snap out of it…

Knotty may be rather skittish, but his will must be really strong if he’s able to help Sharpe against the mind control. And it took guts to throw the key into the flame.

Not to be that person but… no I’m gonna be that person. He’s been so flirty and when Knotty grabbed his hand he temporarily broke free from the method…

Wow! Way to go, Knotty! Even if he weren’t hobbled by extreme shyness, this would be a brave deed. And I suspect that in these few short hours, Knotty is starting to care for Sharpe as a person (not a friend yet, but a person), and not just seeking to get out of his dreaded task tomorrow.
