The new parent sucky sleep cycle Parent wakes when the baby briefly cries or makes some weird-ass noise. Parent remembers that the baby does this shit all the time and it's never anything to worry about. Unless they're wrong this time!!! Parent runs off to check on the perfectly fine baby.. Parent returns to bed exhausted. Feels dumb. Swears not to freak out next time. and then. just as they drift off to sleep.

I’m ruined for motherhood because my mom watched a lot of lifetime movies as a kid. I remember one scene from a movie that was on when I was walking through the living room- a kid is crying for his mother, the mother tries to go to him but the father holds onto her, apparently she’s been a helicopter parent and she needs to chill. Only this time the kid had something wrapped around his neck and he suffocates. That scene really burned into my brain. Luckily I don’t plan to have kids.

Still better than the anxiety at the start of “Terms of Endearment,” where the mom kept checking on her silent baby and mistaking sleep for death.
