Didn’t read newspapers, periodicals or books, know nothing about history, too much television, movies and social media. And here we are, on the bottom.
This is the second cartoon I’ve seen today which uses the beginning of the Constitution as a symbol to honor the Declaration of Independence.
I could say “fair enough”, as the Declaration was a major step on the road which eventually led to the Constitution, which is the real foundation of our government and nation. But I worry that these cartoonists — and by extension, a great many Americans who read (or even don’t read) these cartoons — actually don’t know the difference… that their “patriotism” is founded more on hearsay and misunderstanding than on reality and knowledge.
I recommend that before the end of today every one of you reading this access a copy of the Declaration of Independence, read it through in its entirety and think about what it says. Ask yourselves, “What is the meaning of those words?” and “Do I agree with them?” (Does it say what you thought it said?)
The Preamble declares who is enacting the Constitution — the people of the United States. The document is the collective enactment of all Americans. The Constitution is “owned” by the people, not by the government or any branch thereof.
We the People are the stewards of the U.S. Constitution and remain responsible for its continued existence and its faithful interpretation.
WE, the People is still just as it was when first written. We were never one people. Our Founders did not intend for us to be united in lockstep. That’s a conservative view. In the government our Founders made the majority governs, the minority loses. In the next election the minority might win and then they govern.
I don’t care for conservative governing, or worse today with tRump. Every Republican/conservative president since 1929 has had a depression or recession, some had two. It is the Republican/conservatives who whine about the National Debt when Democrats are in majority, but they are the ones who made most of our debt. Reagan and Bush2 tripled our National Debt. But it’s still our Nation. And if the majority wants what I want in government, tRump and his Republicans will be voted out of office.
What has happened in our current government has happened at least 3 times in our history. Each time big business and conservatives buy power they’ve been defeated. Not immediately, but shortly. We need to do it again.
The Republican Party could care less about the American people. They just need the votes of their base supporters after the Supreme Court gave the greenlight to their blatant gerrymandering of voting districts to favor the PARTY. At the direction of the Chief Nitwit in the White House, the justice Department is trying to find a way to put the citizenship question back on the census questionnaire. This in defiance of the Supreme Court who blocked the current attempt to minimize minority participation in our democracy. The Republican who advocated a citizenship question admitted in his justification that its purpose was to help the RepubliCON Party by discouraging minority voting not to insure voting rights as portrayed by the Nitwit’s administration.

That’s right. When the president destroys The Constitution, he destroys us all.

I am to the point where I no longer believe we are “the people.” We are no longer A people. We are fractured and fragmented beyond recognition.

Well Mr. Breen, it’s an interesting theory but it doesn’t seem to be working that way.

There will be no return to “We the People” until we the people ask “What can I do?” instead of “What’s in it for me?”
