I commented on this last time this ran, but I’ll repeat it again: it’s actually not that surprising we lost all record of some of Shakespeare’s plays considering, because that was the fate of an estimated 90 to 95 percent of plays and other like works written during the same time period. The fact as many of Shakepeare’s plays survived into modernity as they did is really the more surprising detail, and says quite a lot about how cherished they are to people to have made that effort to preserve them for so long when so many other works didn’t get that same special treatment and are now lost.
