Having been retired (permanent vacation) for twenty years, I find that an occasional vacation is still needed to recharge the run down batteries – two a year (usually cruises) seems to work.
My evangelical in-laws got very ill on a mission to the Dominican Republic a few years ago … we added it to our do-not-visit list. Global warming is perhaps letting some nasty — as yet undetected — biological hazards evolve rapidly?
The D.R. and her people are fantastic (part of my me my entire life). It kills me that these deaths will hurt the country’s reputation more. When I was a kid, it was safe, mostly untouched, and breathtakingly beautiful. The change in the country has made me not want to return, and I haven’t for many years.
