A lot people are pissed off because it was the AMERICAN women celebrating goals. Much of the world simply can’t handle how dominant are women are. They dominate because they are a TEAM loaded with TALENT and we seem to have a deep well of talent to draw upon, year after year after year. Mia Hamm (and others) is retired, but she sleeps well knowing that her heirs are maintaining her high standard of performance.
When there is that great a difference in the final score, it simple means one team was definitely on its game and the other was just not ready for the day, either mentally or physically. Complaints about the winners’ behavior are just simply whining for the sake of whining.
Seven players scored in this game. There’s a chance some of them may never score again during this World Cup. So why the hell take that away from them by shaming them for celebrating just because it was a slaughter. This isn’t college FB where Bama has a 30pt lead in the 4th QTR and we argue they should show mercy and start running the ball and stop trying to score.
There are unwritten “laws” in Football (soccer) that you don’t celebrate a goal against your former team, and when it’s a slaughter, after the 4th goal.
I have no problem with them playing until the final seconds, and scoring all those goals. It’s a bad habit to ever play down to your opponent’s level. Also, in the World Cup, goal differential is a tie-breaker. But the celebrating isn’t something I am personally comfortable with. It’s just not my style. I played competitive hockey well into adulthood. My goal celebrations were pretty muted. Mostly a half raised stick. No fist pumps or jumping around like I just scored in OT during the Stanley Cup finals. I never trash talked an opponent or tried to show anyone up. I punched some guys but I’m happy to say I never started a single fight. My coaches always expected us to display good sportsmanship. I remember one guy getting benched for a game because he yelled at the ref a bunch. In general, today’s celebrations across all sports are over the top by my standards.

Why not? It’s not the easiest thing to do.

You can cheer even more when you get equal pay.

It seems to not be PC to win and worse to celebrate winning. I guess they should have given the win to the losers instead to satisfy the PC Police.

Quite right. It isn’t enough to “win” anymore; one must grind one’s opponent into the dirt.

Yeh, let’s take the end zone dances out of soccer and softball.

Save some of the goals for later.
