As an author, I discovered it’s hard, at first, to give someone your manuscript and walk away instead of hovering. I do admit to checking it when no one was around to see where someone stopped so I’d know the slow spots. Once I gave my mom who was my first reader a copy of a short story I’d written for a charity anthology. It was about a werewolf trapped in his wolf form at a humane society with his only exits being death or being neutered and adopted. My mom’s comment, “I’ve read some weird stories in my time, and this is one of them.” I used that as my first review when we were promoting the anthology. I attributed it to “the author’s mother.” It always got a good laugh. The antho. is out of print so I put it up at my website for free. Do a search for “Byerly Werewolf Whisperer” if you’re interested.
