Beto increasingly looks like an empty suit, or more accurately shirt, but as Stef Zamorano has said of Mayor Pete, he’s openly gay but a closet conservative.
Funny how the Republicans have forgotten most of trumps campaign promises. Only when trump does accomplish something do they remember..try to spin it into something positive and adopt the “hail our great leader” pose.
Political promises should be seen as what an official will fight for rather than absolutely achieve. In a system of checks&balances, there are many roadblocks to delivering on promises. Candidates should be fighting for something, but aren’t necessarily to be totally blamed if they can get them.
People vote on things like Nixon’s sweat. We currently have a content free president. Ronald Reagan was a great example of the fuzzy cloud of emotional vapor that just made folks feel good.
I’d prefer honesty to someone like Bernie who thinks he can snap his fingers and all student loan debt will magically disappear and universal health care will appear out of thin air. It amazes me that people believe what they want to hear. There is a system in place, we may get frustrated with it but to ignore it completely is ridiculous. We are seeing how that works on the GOP side, it’s no better on the left.
Well said, Ted. Your cynicism is warranted — and this is how we wound up with the vulgar real-estate mogul from Queens providing the only hope of escaping from the snobbery and hypocrisy of our ruling elite.
I miss the days when I thought that at least one or two of them were in it because it’s a duty to their nation to take on that tough position and do it as well as possible. (I’m pretty sure I was just naive in those days, but I miss that.) And I really really really miss having a president who spoke in whole sentences (even paragraphs) using words with more than two syllables… and who sometimes did things that I actually approved of.
Several at the top certainly see it as a duty to the country and the American people. Sanders for one. Also Biden to a point (he likes Dick Cheney), Buttegeig, Kamal, & Warren all look promising. Do you even look or are you just expecting it to somehow happen on its own without lifting a finger? You have got to get involved even if only doing research on your subject.

The only promise I want from a candidate is I will not become a dictator.
