If that’s one of the old style recorders with mini-cassette tapes in it, you can always hold your paw on the reel to make your voice sound deeper. After all, it worked for Kevin McCallister in Home Alone!

I love the thought that Bucky’s voice sounds like Pee Wee Herman.

The main reason your recorded voice sounds different to you than what you hear when you’re speaking is because when you speak your eardrums pick up not only sound waves, but also vibrations in your skull produced by your vocal chords, which gives your voice a false sense of bass. That’s why your recorded voice often sounds higher than the way you normally hear it, but sounds like your normal voice to other people. Assuming there’s no problem with the recorder, Rob should be hearing Bucky’s voice the way it normally sounds, which suggests that Bucky sounds like Pee Wee Herman all the time.
