There is no hypocrisy here. If Kate Smith fans want to listen to “God Bless America” on their headphones like this athlete, then they are free to do so (the song is not banned). And nobody in their right mind will play “Rat Tat Tat Tat” at any public assembly.
The song is not banned. Some sports teams will no longer play her version because of her racism. Giving her a pass on her racism because she sang “God Bless America” is narrow minded, insensitive, and typically right wing. Giving her a pass on her racism because it was more socially acceptable in the 1930s is like saying slavery was ok because it was legal at the time.
She was (as are we all) a product of her times. We’ve punished many “public” people who were (but are no longer) publicly racist. (And I hope we are harsher than most when we get around to the Racist in Chief.) She was racist, or played one on the gramophone, so she’s fair game. Besides: Who loses? Her estate is long settled. Whoever was getting royalties didn’t earn ’em. (shrugs)
Hey Lester: What’s the difference between interning migrants, slashing public healthcare benefits, restricting women’s healthcare, spouting hate speech, denying climate change vs…….banning a song at the ballpark?
Answer: nobody actually gives a shit about the latter. And the former are more important.

Notice the only time the right cares about political correctness is when Rep. Omar is speaking.

Warning, extremely racist lyrics.
From the third verse of the Star Spangled Banner
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.
